Capt Sonny Schindler with Shore Thing Charters

Diamondhead, MS USA

Had the same group Saturday from Friday. Tony and and Donna wanted a few trout for the freezer and as many reds as they could keep. They come down every year from Kentucky for some fun in the sun. Worked out perfect both days. We found our trout on the East side of the LA marsh crushing jumbo jumping shrimp over a shell bottom in 4 to 5 foot of water. Caught 31 before the sun came out and went looking for the reds. Only fished 3 banks of flooded grass and got 10 reds along with one flounder. Used alot of live shrimp under the popping cork for both trout and red.

In response to Jasont33..

No that is not red tide.  If it were, you could walk on all the dead fish that would be present. I am not positive, but I think it looks like a algae bloom, most likely attributed to all the runoff from the rivers.  We were in the middle of it Saturday, around W. Ship and there was absolutely tons of small bait in the middle of it.  We picked up a few nice reds and saw bonita bashing the bait as well.  I personally haven't seen great big schools of bonita like that, so close to shore.  Hopefully it won't hurt the fishing much if at all.

Its obvious that fisherman are not to blame for supposedly reducing red snapper population. This week we went offshore, about 60 miles out from Gulfport, near the City Rigs. We found what seem to be more than 50 juvenile redsnapper dead and floating. This caused us to look around and the trail led to a shrimp boat 1/4 mile away. That one shrimp boat killed more in one net drag than I will accidently kill in a lifetime.

We had the choppiest ride out in a week this morning. I had to rethink my plans because my first spot was getting pounded by waves. So, off to the next spot hitting a few nice trout on live shrimp under the cork. It all ended when we hooked into a small black tip. We pressed on to find a few more. Had a father daughter bull red double up to end the trip. We ended the day with 25 trout and two bull reds.
Captain Sonny and I both have a day or two open this week, but not many open the rest of the month. So, if you would like to get a trip in this week give us a call(228-342-2206).

ANGLING ADVENTURES OF LOUISIANA

RIGOLETS FISHING REPORT

James Citts is from Ellisville MS. He and his wife Debbie along with friends Danny & Tammy had a good nights sleep at the SPOTS & DOTS. They were ready to go at first light. We made the short run accross Lake Pontchartrain to the bridges where we fished Shrimp on the bottom to have a good day on the water.  After a little coaching the girls were pulling in some nice fat Specks. Then the guys caught on to the slow bite and they were catching nice fat Specks too. They put 51 Speckled trout (12" to 4lbs) in the box before they were ready to head in. After the short ride in I cleaned up their catch and they were heading home by noon. A fun bunch to spend time on the water with.

James, Debbie, Tammy & Danny Thanks the pleasure was all mine.

Been having some decent trips lately but today was exceptional.  Went straight down to an area that Katrina tore up, that has a lot of underwater broken marsh.  Hit 40 trout fairly quick but the last 10 we had to work hard for.  Found them off in a grass bed on top dogs.  Felt pretty good till we stopped to fill up the gas tank. Ouch.

Left this morning to some choppy water but we managed.  Had Dean and Seth Taylor on board today for some Trout fishing.  Found the bait man and he really gave us some nice bait.  Thanks Johnny,  Great stuff.  Ran south till we got to the Honey Hole and only was able to get a hand full from it.  So we moved around and nickle and dimed the fish untill we wound up with only 9 today, but listening to the vhf not to many folks did better.  Dean hooked up with a huge ray and we were on it for over an hour untill it broke off, I think i need to change the breaks on that Okuma reel i got.  Well for the most part seth was the King Fisherman of the day.  All had a good time and made it home safe.  Great day on the water.  Come get hooked.  GCC.  Good fishing to all.

Had Tony and Donna today for a nice calm, fish hungry day. Found fish in every spot we fished today in the LA marsh. Saw many boats out today, hope they all got in safe and sound. Most of our fish came off the plastics under the popping cork. Did find a few birds on the east side, and managed to get some nice trout off of them. Spent the mid morning redfishing, and got their limit in under an hour, all slot fish. Got to do almost 50 mph on the way in it was so calm. Ended the day with 26 keeper trout, 10 reds and 2 flounder. Will post pics tomorrow. www.shorethingcharters.com 228-342-2206

I had team "Just Lucky" for a day of fishing. Jerry and 6 year old Nicholas wanted a few nice trout and some good slot reds. I picked up some live bait for the trout and dead shrimp for the reds.  The first area yeilded some nice trout. After catching about twenty Jerry wanted to find a few reds. I ran to 1 spot and 1 spot only. The first three casts were reds in the 19 to 20 inch range. Then our first contender came in at 26.5 inches/7lbs. We ended up with three in that range, but catching a total of 10. We ended the day with 20 trout, 10 reds and 1 flounder.

My 3 fisherman yesterday, had a combined 240 years of experience. The big trout didn't have a chance.  I had Bill, Bill and Tom from Diamondhead, what a pleasure.  These guys want to catch large trout and only large trout.  Last time I took Bill N., he caught a 6.1# trout.  Yesterday's largest was 4#12oz..  Their top 5 fish yesterday, would have made a stringer between 22 and 23#.  Don't think I touched the rod on any of those fish.  They do everything themselves.  Tom 83, hooked and landed a l4 1/2# red.  They hooked several bull reds but they tightened the drag to break them off.  They don't want to waste any trout time on reds.  We had a lot of action with trout, reds, sharks and even a small cobia.
These guys are an inspiration laughing and fishing at 83.
Give me a call and let's go fishing.

Have a safe and happy 4th. Big shout out to my Fish Head buddy John Marquez and his lovely wife "Margo" for booking a last minute trip yesterday. He actually showed me a few new things for catching big fish(never stop learning). Didn't slay the fish on Wednesday but put a nice box together. Thanks again John for the intel on the croakers and new tactics. Most of the fish were caught in the LA marsh drifting live croaker on the carolina rig over a shell bank on the NE side. Today I had the infamous "Wolfe Pack". Dr. Randy Wolfe, Dr. Jim Huertin, Mike Pfister, and Evan Wolfe were along for the ride. We took Mr. Pfister 26 twin vee for the day. Fun day with a fun crew. Got a few big trout early with the croakers, but the bite shut down due to sharks, and bad luck. Decided to go inside in the marsh and check out some flooded grass. Smart move, we put 5 slot reds, 4 flounder and even a few trout in the boat in under an hour. Ended the day with 10 nice trout, 5 reds, 4 flounder and some good laughs. Have a great weekend everyone and be safe...

Have not had a chance to post any reports latley, been to busy working and even busier catching monster trout. The past couple of weeks have been some of the best trips that my boat has ever saw.The last 3 weeks I fished approx.11-12 times catching an estimated 400-500 trout. Most of the fish have been about 2.5-3.5 pounds.Yesterday I had one that went 5.6lbs.with several over 4lbs..Today I had to go back after those big ones again. We finished off our limit of 75 at 10:30.When we left we were catching every cast.As good as they were biting I figured that I would switch to plastics and catch the same way.WRONG..No live croaker ,no fish.I'm gonna try to take a trip out Saturday in search of some really big ones in prep for the MS Tit tournament.Check out some of the pictures from the last few trips.

troutman, when you leave BSM there is about a 2 mile stretch of nothing on both sides of the road. We saw the hog on the canal side of the road about halfway from BSM and the first house you come to. Tuesday when we left BSM I counted 11 rabbits on the side of the road. Keesler has two campers in Delacroix for 50 a night. they are nice campers too. The campers are just before you get to serignes on the left. There is a pier to clean fish on. Two years ago I pulled up to BSM and a guy had a nice 6 point in his boat. He said he killed it east of BSM. It was a good time, I plan on going back soon.

Where did you see the Hogs?  I had seen them before Katrina along La Loutre, east of MRGO.  Hogs and Deer.  I thought everything like that would have been washed way inland or died during the storm.  Cat Island had a lot of deer pre-K.

Johnny Marquez - FishHead Gear

Gulfport, MS USA

My wife and I had the pleasure of spending Wednesday morning on the water with Capt. Sonny Schindler of Shore Thing Charters. We always enjoy having a chance to get out with Capt. Sonny as we are sure to have good company and find some nice fish.

We were headed to the east side of the marsh but decided to stop at Flatboat to soak a few croakers on the way – along with about 20 other boats. We pulled out a few nice speckled trout and watched some others do the same, but the lack of fishing etiquette was more than we could take so we pushed on. I’m not one to call out specific boats and lash people on the internet, but I hope that people reading these posts will give a little more thought to their fishing methods and tactics. I was stunned at how many people ran directly up to where boats were anchored and fishing or motored directly behind and within casting distance of our boat or between boats that were fishing. Trout will spook – even if you have a trolling motor. If a fisherman is on a spot give him plenty of room. Maybe there just isn’t room for your crew to fish a particular spot on a particular day and you need to find another. It’s a big body of water with plenty of places to fish, so be courteous to your fellow fishermen. Enough said.

We spent the remainder of the morning working diving birds and breaking fish on the east side before ducking into a few ponds to try for some redfish. The shrimp were really jumping and the birds led the way. The ponds were tough with some very high muddy water in the morning so we quickly abandoned our efforts to go after the redfish. We ended an early day with about 20 nice trout, one flounder and plenty of throwbacks. We even let Capt. Sonny get in on the action. Give Shore Thing and Capt. Sonny a call – they can put you on the fish.

Went to BSM and fished the last two days with my son. It was a blast to say the least. We saw everything that had anything to do with wild life. From the dolphins, to hogs to alligators. Wound up putting 43 specks in the boat with three flounder. The lure was gulp glow and natural under a cork. The fishing is hot right now at the rocks.

It was a beautiful morning, calm water, no thunder storms. My very first cast was a big trout, then every thing else was a lady fish or a shark. The morning was slow. We had to do a lot of running before we found the bite we were looking for.  We caught an array of fish speckled trout, white trout, southern kingfish, redfish, ladyfish, catfish, flounder, and the evil stingray. The three guys I had today fished hard.  After along day we ended up with 35 trout, 4 white trout, 5 southern kingfish, 3 redfish, and 1 flounder. It ended up being a good day. All fish were caught in one spot at the end of the rising tide on live shrimp carolina rigged.

From the report on WLOX the other night the people from the rodeo says that GPT did not appear to be too concerned about the Rodeo but the City of Biloxi jumped on the opportunity and is trying to find a permanent location.  Also I believe the Isle is helping sponsor the rodeo.

Went to Cat Island Sunday Morning.  put in at Pass Christian Harbor and headed out.  Weather was cloudy and water was pretty choppy. Made it out there ok and started fishing.  We told ourselfs we were gonna leave by 1230 to beat the storms.  At about 1200, we started catching some redfish.  Every cast.  About 200 we decided to head in.  WRONG ANSWER.  Made the turn around CAT ISLAND and it was on.  Water was 10 times worse than it was going out there.  Sky was black but it didnt rain.  We took in so much water I feared my boat was gonna sink.  Bilge pump stopped working on the way in.  BAD TIME.  But we made it.  LEAVE BEFORE the storms.  My knees were shaking about an hour after making it to the shore!!

A boat trip to Cat Island from BSL can be enjoyable in nice weather but keep an eye on the weather.  A summer T-storm in the Sound can make a 17ft boat seem very small.  Their are places in the Bay, such as Grassy Point, that can be very productive and a lot less dangerous.  As for live bait, I never use it but I heard they sell it somewhere in the Pass.  Good Luck, Jeff L

Fished Sunday and today. Scott and the boys fished a second day on Sunday, just to out do themselves. We went back to the redfish hole to press our luck with live shrimp. We had non-stop action all day. The young fisherman got to reel in fish after fish after fish. We had a four man limit of reds(20), black drum, sheephead, and a few trout.
Today I had Big Al, my big trout hunter.  We set out this morning, got some croakers, and went looking for calm clean water.  The calm clean water was hard to find at the north east end, but we finally found some. We hit some good trout and pecked away at his limit of 25 big females. This past week has been good .
